About me
Hello! I am K.B. Shivuri, and this is The Seasoned Hearth — a place where real, from-scratch cooking takes centre stage.
I am a self-taught home cook based in Kempton Park, South Africa. No culinary school, no formal training — just a deep love for food, a curious mind, and many hours spent learning in my own kitchen. Over the years I have come to believe that some of the most honest and satisfying cooking happens not in restaurants, but at home, where a meal is made with intention and eaten with the people you love.
I am passionate about traditional recipes — the kind passed down through generations, cooked slowly and eaten together. But I also love experimenting, finding out what happens when you try something a little differently, swap one ingredient, or go back to a technique your grandmother used but the world seems to have forgotten.
The Seasoned Hearth was born from a simple belief: that cooking from scratch is not a luxury or a skill reserved for chefs. It is something every home cook can do, and it is worth doing. There is a quiet kind of pride that comes from making your own sourdough bread, simmering a beef stew until it is rich and deep, or mastering a sauce without opening a single tin.
This blog is also a celebration of South African flavours and food heritage. Our cuisine carries stories — of warmth, of community, of ingredients that connect us to the land and to each other. I want to keep those stories alive, one recipe at a time.
I am so glad you are here. Truly. Every person who reads a post, tries a recipe, or leaves a comment is part of what makes The Seasoned Hearth feel alive. This little blog is my way of sharing something I love — and I hope it finds its way into your kitchen and onto your table.
If you ever want to say hello, ask a question, or share how a recipe turned out for you, please do not hesitate to visit my Contact page — I would love to hear from you.
Happy cooking, and welcome to the hearth.
— K.B. Shivuri
